Professionally, after working in the real estate, construction, and insurance industries early in his career, Gene became a stock broker/financial advisor for Bache & Company, which eventually became Prudential Securities, in 1962. Gene also first became a season ticket holder to Wisconsin football games in 1949, holding those tickets for the remainder of his life. ![]() More importantly, though, Madison is where Gene met the love of his life, Inez Rits, who he married on October 20, 1949. ![]() He then transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1949. And then he immediately joined the United States Army Air Corps shortly before the end of World War II.Īlthough he would never claim to be an academic star, Gene first attended Michigan State University, enrolling in the Engineering School, but, shortly thereafter, transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he studied for two years. An Eagle Scout in his teens, he graduated from Rufus King High School in 1944. His love affair with Milwaukee never ended. After short stints in Detroit, Chicago, and Wichita, Kansas, Gene began his life in Milwaukee in 1936. Gene was born on August 24, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, to Morris and Marie Gilbert. ![]() He died at age of 95 of natural causes at his home at St. Milwaukee - Eugene ("Gene") Gilbert, a long-time financial advisor and life-long learner, embodied the concept of a well-balanced and well-lived life. ![]()
